Arras Carbide Lamp, apart! Took me a while to pull this apart. In the end I left it in teh freezer next to the bread & ice-cream over night. Then layed it on its side, and pured a few litres of near boiling water over the upper part. Don'ed some thick leather gloves, very small amount of effort and she came apart. Inside was half a tank FULL of lime (remains of carbide & water). And almost FULL of water. Seems the antique shop guy had maybe tried to put some water into it. I was expecting it to be completly rotton because of the water. But instead, the HUGE amount of water & spent carbide (lime) had actually preserved the cup & base of the water tank. All the rust you can see is merely superficial. Just cleaning it off now :) The cottage This was mostly antiques for show...but the place was stocked with every appliance, pots and pans, measuring cups, tupperware..glasses, washer dryer, cappuchino maker BBQ ..there is nothing we needed but did'nt have during our stay..Very well stocked..complete with tea and coffee..ice cream in the freezer and hot cocoa too!
